We champion and advocate for a just and equal world, and spend all our time harnessing the superpower abilities of social pioneers, innovators and civil society leaders to fast track radical system transformation. Being a fast growing social start-up ourselves initiated by Welthungerhilfe in 2014, we know the transformative power of ideas and what it takes to bring them to life. Over the years we have also developed a strong reputation for strengthening and deepening local participative social innovation processes and championing the role of the third sector in radical system transformation discourses.
This is a wonderful and well thought proposal! Connecting and exchanging is so powerful in helping movements and communities support each other and build from each other's experiences and knowledge. The spontaneous and decentralized nature of it poses often a challenge for the wealth of information to travel far. Even more so in an era when long distance travel is often a concern in the face of the need to lower our carbon emissions, a tool such as this could allow a much effective degree of global interaction and traceability of the immense tapestry of grassroots initiatives and, a pool for solidarity among the struggles.
Helping communities work together to address global problems is the way of the future! It's the only way that they can stand up to powerful forces working against their best interests. This idea deserves to be developed further.
Brilliant ! bringing the community together whether they are local or across the world With accessible tools. Sharing and building knowledge and experience can only be a good thing !
A navigation tool for organizers! What a great idea -- community organizers have historically played such an important role in enacting social change. But they are also often using minimal tools from what I can see. Developing a way to ease their communication and sharing of strategies makes a lot of sense and could have a deep multiplier effect I think
Fantastic idea. Sharing knowledge and ideas from similar issues, giving a shared and practical tool in the hands of many organizers and not least, giving people the power and hope of knowing they are not alone in their struggles. A local movement can be global.
This is addressing such an important topic - that the people who are most affected by injustice and trying to change it, are often the ones who are most separated and disconnected from others trying to change things. The will to connect is there, but a tool to enable this is needed, so this addresses that perfectly!
Love this concept/proposal! I think it could be very helpful to food sovereignty organizing. I appreciate how the various pieces sem very well thought through, and i love the dual focus on connecting and organizing.
Map, Match, and Act sounds like a catchy and easy to understand name for this tool. Great idea to simplify it to its bare essentials in a way that is memorable. I think this tool idea has a lot of potential!
What a fabulous idea to use online and offline data to mobilize and organize people. Grounding social change in real life data that you can test and evaluate is something often missing from other justice projects I have been involved with.
I love the idea of collective mapping, because those most directly impacted by injustice should have the first say in defining and voicing the injustice experienced. Too often it is high level organizations deciding what is an 'injustice' (being experienced by someone else) and how to resolve this, which is not an empowering place to start! This is a great idea and I support it.
Great idea -- injustices are experienced collectively and they ought to be tackled collectively. Love the part about the people feeding directly into the mapping of the injustice issues they face and the community organizers that are closely connected to those people. This local level approach to addressing global issues is much needed
It is an interesting idea to connect people in different corners of the world around common issues they face, and to then enable them to organize themselves politically to push for stronger public services and human rights protection. Tracking with data sounds like a great way to continually improve upon the model over time.
I have heard community organizing models are very effective and making visible injustices by those directly impacted. So I support any tool that strengthens the power of organizers to connect to each other around the world and of course, that connects communities to organizers. I think this will have a strong impact!
Interesting concept; I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops. Lots of potential for social impact here. I'm sure you'll have a lot of participation. Keep up the great work!
Communication and information access are critical to bringing the voices of the most marginalized groups facing injustice to the forefront of any social change action. So any tools that streamline this process and enable the ease of information to go from the individual immediately affected to the organizer to then facilitating organizers to connect to each other will help to ground the work of social justice into the realities of the marginalized. This will improve the overall impact of the struggle for justice
Very useful application. It can help people most in need of help. You identified some of the key issues. Getting the poorest (often illiterate) people to use the App will be a challenge, but there are solutions. The App can help connect groups and raise awareness across communities and countries.
Essentially this tool is connecting people affected by the same issues globally to unite against injustice. It features a 'mapping' of the issues to visibilise the varying types of injustices happening around the world in order to connect those communities facing similar situations (i.e. a community impacted by land grabs that are carried out by the same company grabbing another community's land across the world - this is a natural alliance of people power!). What makes this tool very unique though is its real world application, which is not only about mapping, but is about action. Connecting communities is done using a community organising model, which positions those facing injustice to carve out and re-claim justice, by applying pressure to the appropriate authorities (i.e. TNC's and/or states). Communities share strategies and information regarding their issue. The tool also has a built-in mechanism for evaluation, to ensure that its use becomes more effective over time. In sum, it is about 1) mapping, 2) connecting, 3) community organising, and 4) tracking/evaluating. Looks great and like it will facilitate targeted strategic approaches to demanding rights-based approaches are upheld!
Fantastic idea. Very few issues we’re facing are local. Being able to connect with others fighting the same problems and injustices, learning from and cooperating with one another efficiently and effectively is so important.
This is a great idea, and would be very useful for activist organizations in the Philippines and across Asia. We need (international) solidarity now more than ever!
This seems like such a great idea. Too often protest movements and individuals work in isolation from each other. So although they might be starting a new battle against individuals or companies, people in other countries might have faced down the same issues and have knowledge and experience that they can and should pass on.
Acting in concert with the knowledge of those who have gone before us is an absolute must if we are to fight injustice.
